Are you a teen who experiences trouble with life? Perhaps you've lost a relative or maybe you're seen as an outsider. Well then "Blue Exorcist" by is Kazue Kato is the book for you. "Blue Exorcis"t is about a young teen named Rin Okumura, who lives most of his life as a troubled teen who drops out of school alot. The only people who support him are his father, brother, and the workers/employees at his father's church. But soon Rin finds out that he's no ordinary child, and that he's actually a part demon part human boy born of the Devil. Now some of you may be thinking, "How does this relate to me? I'm not a supernatural being from heaven or hell.". But if you listen and keep on reading through this response/blog post, you will then begin to understand.
"Blue Exorcist" teaches teens about how to deal with the death of loved ones. One of the way the book shows this is because in a surprising moment in the book, Shiro Fujimoto, the man who raised Rin like his own son, is killed by the Devil who tries to forcefully take Rin and turn him into a fully blooded Demon. This has a big affect on Rin. At first, he doesn't care about what may happen in the future or even life at all, and wasn't always so appreciative of his family. But Fujimoto's death causes Rin to want to fight for any and all living things, and stop the Devil from his reign of terror. Rin isn't the only one who deals with death of loved ones as well. Many other characters in the story have lost a family member or even their entire families because of accidents or attacks on their homes and villages. But in the end, learn lessons that help them get over the death of their loved ones, and continue to live happy lives. This relates to teens because there are a lot of teens out there who suffer from the loss of loved ones. And this book can show teens how to deal with it and even recover from it.
This book also teaches teens the importance of working with others. Various times throughout the series, Rin and his friends are put to tests that involve them working together. At first, these tests turn out rocky because they are always fighting and arguing. But as time goes by, the friends begin to work with one another, rather than fight each other all the time. And in the end, always end up passing their tests and learning something, as well as gaining something new. This can show teens what working together can accomplish. After all, Teamwork is key in life.
Finally, something that's really important that the book shows throughout the story is the importance of sticking up for others. Many of the characters in "Blue Exorcist" including Rin fight for and protect other people. Teens may encounter a situation in which a friend or student is being bullied, and this book can show how to put a stop to it. Many times when the characters aren't fighting demons, they are dealing with bullies at school. But they manage to overcome and stand up to these bullies, and this can be important for teens to know.
In conclusion, I believe that "Blue Exorcist" is a good book for teens to read because even though a lot of it may be fantasy, it can prepare teens for real-life problems.
